Trapped in a world where the legends of Tewa mythology walk free, a young girl must solve an ancient mystery in order to return to her own world.

It is the beginning of summer, and twelve-year-old Maggie is angry about her family’s move from San Diego to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lonely and resentful at her new circumstances, Maggie and her dog Jack explore their new neighborhood and soon find the shady trail leading up to the Rio Grande.

While playing by the river, Jack startles a strange young boy, Ash. Maggie is slowly drawn away from the real world of her family and into Ash’s land, one populated by myths and legends. Threatening all is Shriveled Corn Man, a powerful sorcerer in search of vengeance for wrongs long past.

Guided by the trickster Coyote and the cryptic Spider Old Woman, Maggie and Jack must travel across Ash’s world in order to free her new friend and his people.

What they're saying about it:

"I found this story on a recommendation by Lindsay Buroker, and I am very thankful for that tip! I had to read it straight through without any interruptions. I don't remember reading about Old Spider Woman before, and I really liked her part, as well as Jack's. I almost always enjoy any Coyote story, and this was another great variation.

The characters are well-developed, interesting, and believable. The plot and action are the same. What else can I say? Read this story and support this author."--Amazon Reviewer

"I recently read Coyote's Daughter and found it delightful. Unlike other fantasy books, this one captures your imagination so that you totally believe in Ash's world and the ability to go from one world to the other. I am looking forward to reading more by this author."--Amazon Reviewer

What they're saying about it:

Long and Short Reviews said: Can You Trust A Cowboy? is a fast fun steamy read, with a twisty mysters, a dollop of thrills and a whole lot of romance. The novella length left me wishing for more and earned every one of the five books.

Happily ever After Review by Kris said: This fabulous romantic mystery by K. R. Bailey is a true winner in my opinion. She drops just enough crumbs to keep you on the edge of your seat, trying to gues who the bad guy is, until the very end.

Romance at Heart Magazine says: "Can You Trust A Cowboy? has it all -- this is a read you won't want to miss."

Ex-CIA covert operator Martin Dallas has never failed a mission, not in the jungles of Cambodia or the deserts of the Middle East. After Wahhabi terrorists murder his wife, Dallas leads an elite mercenary team in a decisive covert op designed to end terrorism.

Financed by an American industrialist, Dallas secures suitcase nukes for his mission and prepares to strike at the heart of radical Islamic terrorists. At the same time, the CIA and a SEAL team have only hours to save tens of thousands of Americans from dying in a nuclear inferno triggered by suicide bombers who have already penetrated U.S. waters.

While tracking the nuclear-armed terrorists and deploying the first of his weapons Dallas slides back into nasty habits like kidnapping, torture, and murder. When it’s time to detonate his first bomb, he realizes he’s progressively losing his humanity and is becoming what he seeks to destroy. As Mossad and the CIA close in on him and his bomb, Dallas must quickly decide whether he’ll incinerate thousands of civilians…or salvage his soul by allowing his mission to fail.

What they're saying about it:

"Pels bridges the gap between Coonts and Clancy with his technological detail of a Clancy thriller and the imagery of a Coonts story line.

"Edge of God" takes you into the real time world of terrorism and choices that the men and women who fight the world's bad guys must make. Pels heightens the tension so well, that I actually found myself with an increased pulse-rate and trying not to skip pages ahead to see what happens. The pacing and writing are simply superb and unmatched.

Pels writes his book with a high level of technical knowledge, and it simply amazes me that he knows his stuff so well. This adds even more to the air and feel of authenticity.

Pels gives nothing away, and only slowly gives you details as to what your hero is up to. His technique kept my curiosity high, so I was hooked into the story itself. It was good to have the mystery of the story line revealed a bit at a time, it kept me thinking just what is going to happen."--Amazon Reviewer

What might men do with unlimited power? And what might they allow to be done?

Chem is the Mad Element. It is a blessing and a curse with as many names as shades and hues. Some call it liquor of the Gods or Blessing of the Benefactor. Those of the Red Guard call it Michael's Blood, but all names refer to the same element, a chemical compound with many pieces, or no trace on the periodic table at all. It pollutes the world, fills the skies with rippling rainbow smog, an aurora borealis of gasses and choking fumes. The Mad Element wards away death, grants power unimaginable, and twists man and nature. It is corruption in a vial, or the key to life.

Chemicaust is the story of a soldier, brainwashed but well fed and well looked after by the corps. This man, Luke, is set a mission to retrieve a person of interest, a person with no little power, but his mission ends in disaster. Luke wakes in a desert where once a forest had grown. He is crippled, weak and without defence, but struggles towards civilization. Chemicaust is the story of Luke’s need to find humanity and to realize his own humanity in turn, and it all starts with an explosion.

For fans of The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth, Legend, and other fine stories that begin with “L”:

In the weary old city of Trevell, young Daphne happily divides her time between caring for her family and crafting the finest shoes in town. But when she is summoned to sing for a panicking phoenix afraid of its fiery rebirth, Daphne is swept up in a thousand-year-old struggle for survival between immortal spirits.

Endowed with the phoenix’s powers of air and fire, as well as the creature’s beautiful golden skin and ruby feathers, Daphne has only a few hours to save a dying tree, restore a crumbling city, and stop an invading army before the phoenix’s fire consumes her mortal heart.

What they're saying about it:

"While this was a very short book (a mere 108 pages) it was very well written. I had no troubles picturing the world that the author had created.

I loved the story behind the Silver Ash and how it came to be in Daphne's town. Unfortunately, Daphne gets dragged into the problem of the story without wanting to and ends up risking her life to save the town she lives in.

What struck me was how the townspeople were angry with Daphne, without knowing the full story of what was really happening. They were selfish and only cared about their own lives, not the life of a young woman who was stuck in a predicament and whose only thought was to save the town. It's so true to society.

I'm not sure what age group this book is intended for, but if I were to guess, I'd say 11 or 12 and up. Although don't think that it can't be a good book for adults, because I definitely enjoyed it."--Amazon Reviewer

Local rock band Ragman is finally taking off. Stephanie Case's flamboyant performances and scorching guitar work have started attracting crowds, and singer John Tsiboukas--aka Johnny Tango--is delivering the best performances of his life. After months of playing to dead rooms, it looks like success is at hand.

The thing is, there's something wrong with Johnny's voice. Until just a few weeks ago, he couldn't hit the right pitch if you painted a target on it and let him stand real close. Now he sounds amazing. . . and strange things happen every time he sings. Lights burn out. Whole rooms become cold and hushed. People get violent.

What they're saying about it:

"I love music and I love horror and Voice was a wonderful combination of the two. It starts out a bit slow but soon takes off and there is never a dull page. It is a different take on selling your soul to the devil to get what you want. That is what Johnny does, he wants a better singing voice and the mysterious stranger gives him a chance for success. Soon the band members have to make sacrifices as well. I found it interesting and quite engrossing to read what they were willing to sacrifice and how far they were willing to take it.

What made the book even more enjoyable and real for me was the behind the scenes music details. There was no doubt in my mind that the author knew first hand what he was writing. I loved Johnny who was a nice guy who screwed up. There was something about him from the first page that really tugged on my heart. All the characters gel together wonderfully. The author does a good job of getting us inside of their minds and leaves us asking ourselves what price would we pay for success? There were a few creepy, creepy scenes!"--Amazon Reviewer

For sixteen years of my life Yugoslavia was my country, Serbo-Croatian was my language, and my name Snjezana, meaning Snow-White, was commonly Yugoslavian. Then everything changed. Territory was divided, cities were renamed, people ethnically labeled, and many of “Snow-White’s dwarfs” took guns and became soldiers. Conflicts and violence spread as deadly disease and Yugoslavia became a war-devastated country. But, I was among people who got the opportunity to survive, to find their refuge, and to tell their stories.

What they're saying about it:

"Snjezana's words are beautifully written. To know this story is her true life story really brings her words into your heart. Just to know what she went through to start her life here in America is an inspiration. I would highly recomend this book...every American needs to know how a senseless & hate filled war fueled over racism and religious differences can torture the innocent, even without shedding their blood!"--Amazon Reviewer

That is, until she’s transferred back to the hometown. Not wanting her past to cross paths with her future, Hallie puts her relationship with Bo on hold.

When she arrives in town, Hallie finds crazy Aunt Grace rummaging through a dumpster looking for the “perfect” welcome home gift for her niece. That’s just the beginning. After that, Aunt Grace stays busy by dying her stolen poodle’s hair pink and leaving the dog on her apartment roof to pee, throwing bricks out the window at passing neighbors, and climbing every flag pole to kiss the ornamental eagle.

Hallie finds some sanity at a local jewelry-making class where she uncovers a hidden talent for beading. When her talent is discovered by a major department store jewelry buyer, Hallie realizes that what she had in Chicago might not have been her dream life after all.

What they're saying about it:

"This book was a great, fun book to read, with so many interesting (a few sad, too) moments. I read it in just 2 days, as it really kept me wanting to continue to see what was going to happen next. I loved crazy Aunt Grace & the "pink" poodle! The reader can reflect back on his/her own life to remember special moments of importance & to see that one gets out of life exactly what he/she puts into it."--Amazon Reviewer

"Hallie's life is about to be turned upside down. Forced into being sent to another city for a new job that she doesn't want, she'll also be wrenched away from the guy she's in love with, Bo. The only problem is that Bo doesn't know she feels the same way. Will it be too late for them? And how will Hallie cope without her fab friends for support?

Carpe Bead'em is fun with a capital F. It's sad, funny, inspiring, quirky, and great chick lit! It shows that you never know what's round the corner, and anything's possible if you just take a chance on life! Perfect summer reading."--Amazon Reviewer

Blood of Requiem (Requiem Fire, Book 1) by Daniel Arenson

Genre: Fantasy

Price: $2.99

Where to Get It:

Amazon.com (Kindle)
Amazon UK
Barnes and Noble (Nook)

A new epic fantasy series begins. Requiem Fire tells a story of blood,
steel, and dragonfire.

BOOK ONE: BLOOD OF REQUIEM

Long ago stood the kingdom of Requiem, a land of men who could grow
wings and scales, breathe fire, and take flight as dragons. Requiem
ruled the sky.

But Dies Irae, a tyrant leading an army of griffins, hunted Requiem's
people, burned their forests, and shattered their temples. Requiem
fell. This ancient land now lies in ruin, its halls crumbled, its
cries silenced, its skeletons littering the burned earth.

In the wilderness, a scattering of survivors lives in hiding. The
griffins still hunt them, and every day promises death. Will Requiem's
last children perish in exile... or once more become dragons and fly
to war?

What they're saying about it:

"The vivid image on the cover drew me to this novel, and I am happy I have read it.

Blood of Requiem is a well-crafted novel, with strong, flowing prose, well-developed characters and a fast moving plot that keeps the reader engaged. The story follows the struggles of a few survivors of the Vis Requis to evade the evil King Dies Irae, who hunts these dragon people he calls weredragons mercilessly, aided by a host of griffins.

The plot is quite straightforward, with a few minor subplots. It allows for less intrigue than I usually like in my fantasy, but the storytelling and pace made up for it with ease. The worldbuilding is not earth-shattering, but well-developed and interesting enough, and there are some intriguing characters, most notably those of Benedictus, his daughter Agnus Dei and his estranged daughter and enemy Gloriae and young Kyrie.

My main gripe is with the character of Dies Irae, who is just your average, cruel, sadistic and bitter villain. I know that the black-and-white struggle of good against evil is still a strong theme, but I would have preferred to see a bit more grey. Despite this minor complaint, this was a fast and furious read, just like one of the many battles between Kyrie and the griffins."--Amazon Reviewer

The year is 1986. The Cold War is five years from its end bringing a close to a nearly fifty year standoff between the United States and the USSR. The Soviet Union is outraged over a large number of Pershing missiles being kept in West Germany. President Ronald Reagan is proposing the Strategic Defense System, also known as "Star Wars", further raising the heat on the Soviets. The USSR is in turmoil over General Secretary of the Communist Party, Mikhail Gorbachev, proposing a revolutionary policy of Glasnost or "openness" toward the west. They are also mired in a war of conquest in Afghanistan. Leftist, terrorist groups such as West Germany's Red Army Faction (RAF) and France's Action Directe (AD) are threatening further attacks on western military installations. Thousands of protestors are regularly picketing sites that house nuclear weapons. It appears nothing can solve this standoff except complete, nuclear annihilation or capitulation by one of the sides. The pressure is rising quickly in the Cold War.

One company of Infantry stands between all of these enemies and live Pershing II nuclear missiles.

In this very personal memoir, the author carries the reader through his two year tour as a young Infantryman in Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment (Pershing). He shares with you the highs and lows of life in the boiler pot of a Pershing unit and in Heilbronn, Federal Republic of Germany. He takes you to the site, to the field, and out on the town as he earns his way back to "the world". This very readable adventure is both brutally honest and irreverently funny. For the first time, someone from inside 56th Field Artillery Command (Pershing) speaks out on exactly what it was like to serve in that command during the very momentous period at the end of the Cold War. You will experience the brotherhood that is exclusively found in the Infantry which was only made stronger by the unique conditions in C 2/4 Infantry. The narrative is extremely personal, but it is written in a way that is universal and will be widely enjoyed by any audience. This book is a rollicking adventure from beginning to end. The author explains the tremendous toll it took on the minds, hearts, bodies, and souls of the men who volunteered to stand between the Eagle and the Bear. Someone is finally sharing what millions experienced in this very entertaining memoir. You will stand by the author and see the world through his eyes. You will live it.

The Cold War has become a footnote at the end of many history text books. Even though it influenced the world more than any other period with the possible exception of the Renaissance, it is normally left with a short period at the end of a history class. Millions of Americans served overseas in the Cold War, and very few of them have told their stories. There is an entire generation that only vaguely remembers hearing something about the Cold War.

"SAT & BAF! Memories of a Tower Rat" is a first step in correcting that situation.

What they're saying about it:

"I got the book last Thursday night and was finished by Sunday. It brought back so many memories. Doug thanks for putting it down in black and white. She's about to get charmed...

Libby Fay's safe little life as a waitress at a posh New York boutique hotel implodes when Sheikh Rasyn Al Jabar, black-eyed and seductive, into her world and swears that he loves her.

The powerful sheikh will do anything to prevent becoming the ruler of his North African homeland, including marrying a woman who is inappropriate to be queen. When he sees the beautiful, bubbly waitress, he knows that she is the perfect wife to help him avoid the throne—all he has to do is make her fall in love with him.

All her life, Libby has longed for the same loving, equal partnership her parents had—something she couldn't possibly have with a forceful sheikh who ignores all her objections. But Rasyn seems to be able to charm her into anything, including his bed. Soon, she finds herself on a plane to Abbas, transported into a fairy tale come true.

Unfortunately for Libby, a Cinderella is the last thing this Prince Charming wants.

What they're saying about it:

"Morgan set her well written plot in the middle of an exciting, exotic and highly believable foreign land. Her characters are rich and intriguing, the best I've come across in this type of a storyline. Completely worth the money! I wish this was a series... hint hint."--Amazon Reviewer

"Libby, the main female character, is one lucky gal! Well to be honest Sheikh Rasyn is lucky to. Both of the character's different backgrounds make this a great `opposites attract' setting. Everything in the story is charming right down to each other's fears and desires.

Once I got past drooling over the man on the cover, I couldn't stop reading. This story kept my eyes wide open. I soaked in every word thinking I would be able to guess the ending and I didn't which is a HUGE plus in my opinion. Teresa Morgan, the author, kept me guessing right down to the end.

The heat of Rasyn and Libby's romance fanned across the book from beginning to end in a soft and sensual way.

The descriptions of their surroundings, their beliefs, their attitudes, family issues, tension and everything else in between that makes a plot worthwhile are award wining in my opinion. It's obvious to me that Teresa took the time to make the story seem like it could really happen. As I read I could easily see myself in Libby's shoes wanting what she did, feeling the balmy desert winds and desiring Rasyn even with his faults.

The secondary character's prove to be a very valuable part to Cinderella and the Sheikh."--Amazon Reviewer

The Mark of Kane (A Thaddeus Kane Novel) by LW Herndon

Genre: Urban Fantasy

OmniLit

Demons, sorcerers, immortals – a little evil goes a long way

Human sorcerers bent on power are disrupting the underworld with demonic possessions and L.A. with murders. Half-demon half-human, Thaddeus Kane is the bloodhound for his clan, charged with finding the sorcerers and destroying them. His personal rules have always been clear—save his clan, protect innocents, and survive. Solicited for help by a demon from another clan, Kane’s first instinct is to blow her off. Until she dangles his one weakness beneath his nose—a mortal threat to prophetic children. Loyalties stretched in his race to find pre-emerging Irins and wizards, Kane struggles to ward off the danger to his clan. His previously harried, but manageable, life now swirls with secrets, until one fatal shot changes everything he believed about his past, turning the table on enemies and allies alike.

What they're saying about it:

"I'm always excited when I discover a new writer. LW Herndon is a new find. The Mark of Kane (A Thaddeus Kane Novel) is one such find.

The story starts as it means to go, an adrenaline rush with some quiet moments. LW kept me on my toes throughout the book. I was never sure what would happen next.

Kane is a half-breed, human/demon, or is he? He's on the hunt for human sorcerers bent on power. They are killing (draining their victims of their power and life force) demons and young humans or worse. To say more will be a spoiler. However, I will say the demons are multi-layered and as with Kane, not what they seem.

But these sorcerers didn't count on Kane, the bloodhound for his demon clan. He is charged with finding and destroying the sorcerers. He lives by his own rules: save his clan, protect innocents, and survive. All that is put at risk when he's solicited by a demon from another clan to save humans who are prophetic children, the Irins and then shock, wizards. In this world, wizards have always become sorcerers. Not if Kane can prevent it. He's out to save the children and train the budding wizards thus protecting them from sorcerers.

This is a wonderfully told story of how appearances are deceptive and sometimes your life is a lie. This book isn't a romance. It's a true urban fantasy--one that sucks you in and holds you tight until the last word. The ending left me with my mouth open and wanting more."--Amazon Reviewer

Raven is a fantasy novel for children and young adults set in the beautiful province of British Columbia.

After the inexplicable disappearance of Lilly Taylor's parents, she has no choice but to move to Canada where she unravels some frightening yet intriguing family secrets...

Her whole life had been based on a lie. Lilly had grown up in a loveless home with a father who she had barely ever seen and a mother who was... well, not very motherly.
After they mysteriously disappear without a trace, Lilly is sent to Canada where she finds a whole new way of life. A life filled with love and people who care for her. But that's not all she discovers, Lilly also finds out that she isn't who, or what, she thinks she is.

Lilly has a very special ability and it's just a matter of time before her true self starts to shine. And when it does, her life will never be the same again.

What they're saying about it:

"Wow Wow Wow, I don't even know where to begin with this review, so let me start here. Usually I am very skeptical when it comes to reading books with a paranormal aspect and I think that it's because they are so far-fetched in regards to reality that I have a hard time connecting with the characters, but this book changed that for me for sure. In fact, i'm going as far as to say that THIS IS the BEST paranormal YA book that i've ever read.

Lilly is stuck in England with an unloving mother and a barely there father, so when both of her parents disappear, Lilly gets uprooted and moved to her grandfather who she's never met halfway across the world in British Columbia, Canada. Lilly is in for a lot of suprises though, when everything and I mean everything she thought she knew about her life gets turned upside down!

This story honestly gripped me from the first page and held on tight until the last page. My only complaint about this book was that it wasn't long enough, I got to the last sentance and was devastated that the story was over, but thrilled to learn that this is the first in a series. Book 2 is due out this September, and you better believe i'll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on this book. I honestly could sing my praises for this book for days, but instead i'm going to give you a word of advice and tell you to go pick up this book and read it, I promise you will not want to miss out on this series!"--Amazon Reviewer
