Fifteen-year-old Emma Thorpe is in love with her married pastor. When he kisses her, just as she dreamed he would, her world tilts on its axis. What does it mean? Who should she tell? Will it happen again? After scandal rocks the church, Emma's forced to decide how much of the truth to share, and at what cost.

What they're saying about it:

"A really suspenseful story"

"Can't recommend this book enough"

"Skillfully written"

"Real emotion and...complexity"

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Judy Nill paints a compelling picture of a girl coping with two deaths--her younger brother and her beloved grandmother--and the neglect and indifference of her parents. The reader is never quite sure if her infatuation with Pastor Grantham is real or a teenage fantasy. The uncertainty of their relationship will keep readers turning pages to the end.
By the way, I'm not a young adult. I'm a little older than that!

  2. I read this a couple of months ago and I couldn't put it down! Emma has faced a lot of hardship in her life and in many ways has been forced to take on an adult role...which is perhaps why she believes she can be in a real relationship with her pastor. I was rooting for her to find her inner strength and embrace those who really loved her. By the way, I don't own a Kindle and I ordered a hard copy from Amazon, for $6.99...which is still a great deal!

  3. Had to stay up late to finish this book! Judy Dearborn Nill writes with compassion and sensitivity on behalf of kids who get into sticky situations with the very adults they're supposed to be able to trust. While the story is a great read for young adults, older ones easily relate, too. I bought two hard copies, one for my mom and one for another friend. To see an interview with Judy Dearborn Nill, go to
