I walk down a long, dark corridor filled with doors. Clutched in my hand is a ring of keys of various sizes and shapes and colors. Each key will open a door, some leading to new worlds, others hiding secrets better left forgotten, and still more holding dreams to be shared.

At the end of the hall stands a wooden chest with a golden latch. I fumble through my keys and insert one after another until the lock clicks softly. The lid feels heavy in my hand as I push it open.

Something wrapped in a cloth lays in the bottom of the chest. Carefully opening the cloth, I find a book. Is it a book of stories or a guide to my key ring? Why is the book locked away? Is it precious or might it be dangerous?

In golden letters, one word is engraved across the leather cover: Unlocked

What they're saying about it:

"I really enjoyed this book of short stories. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys short stories not just YA. First the stories are all very well written. The authors are all very good. I hope to see more of these books in the furture. This book has a story for everyone included it is just not about the same kinds of stories. Some are paranormal, And some are real life occurances. Great book thanks for giving me the opportunity to read it."--Amazon Reviewer

20 Goodreads authors have banded together to create this collection of short stories which includes a variety of genres.

Life, death, demons, and donuts. The perils of love; the perils of hell. Ghosts, TV, and human sacrifice. What do they all share? A group of writers, published and unpublished, with no other goal but to make you gasp in shock. Thirty stories, twenty writers. Prepare to get hooked!

What they're saying about it:

"An orgy of many-splendored prose" --Pocatello Times

"Spearheaded by Carlos J. Cortes, author of several science fiction books, Ménage à 20 is a compilation by several Goodreads authors.

As the title suggests, each of these stories contain a twist, a hook at the end, some element the reader doesn't expect.

Did they pull it off? Some of them did and how. A few of these stories took my breath away. They were truly well-written, cleverly executed shorts that did everything a short is supposed to do: draw you in fast and leave you wanting more--and yes, there was a definite twist."

For a young boy named Alex Samuels, suburban life is a meaningless waste of time. Wake up, go to school, get kicked off the baseball team, beat the latest videogame, repeat as necessary. As he nears his thirteenth birthday his apathy knows no bounds. Things had been different when he had been a child, though. Back then he had believed in magic.

Fueled by his grandpa's fairy tales of his own supposed adventures in a magical world known as the Green, Alex had once believed he too could be a hero. That is until well-meaning parents had quashed his dreams with a harsh dose of reality. He long ago gave up on believing in stories of dragons and elves and magic swords; too bad they never gave up on him! When his grandpa gave him the old wooden flute for his birthday it became one more piece of junk in his closet. That is, until, real life monsters from out of the old stories come to visit. Now, swept away by the magical song of the flute Alex finds himself in the Green, a wild land in which humans are a myth long forgotten. Join him as he rediscovers friendship, heroism, and the magic of his childhood that was once lost.

What they're saying about it:

"From sprites who can't stop chattering to gnomes who exhibit all the worst bureaucratic tendencies of humans the little twists and turns Best has given to the subject make the book (and its sequel) well worth a read."--Amazon Reviewer

"The Magic Flute is a tale full of elves, fairies, trolls, talking trees, mysterious songs, dangerous monsters, and exciting adventures. At its core, however, it is a story about growing up, making difficult choices, overcoming fear, making sacrifices for the good of society, about love and friendship. It is a thoroughly delightful book. Highly recommended."--Amazon Reviewer

Bargain eBooks is on vacation for the next two days.

Due to the upcoming holiday (well, in the U.S., where most of my pageviews come from) I will not be posting any Bargain eBooks for the next two days. My reasoning for this is that most people will not be online to see the ebooks, so it wouldn't be fair to the authors if I were to post at this time.

I will resume posting cheap eBooks on Friday, 11/26 at 8PM EST. Enjoy your holiday!

The Magician's Wrestler is the first of the Magician series. It starts with magic and ends in the law courts.

Beautifully crafted with the writing skill of a seasoned trial lawyer, it will keep you entertained to the last page. Fully interactive Table of Contents. The novel brings together a quartet of diverse entertainers who live together as a family.

Eric Hightower is a magician and a lawyer who at one time or another drowns both careers in alcohol. Ellen, his wife, is the "Beautiful Magda" on stage with him. Offstage she is the business manager for the act and Eric's personal Carrie Nation. Insuring Eric's sobriety is her mission statement.

Jack Bellow, a rough house fighter and actor, turns the domestic duet into a trio when he helps Eric and Ellen fend off rowdies who invade the stage at a State Fair.

The three become four when Jack discovers Deanna, a trapeze artist, at Circus-Circus.

When Jack is charged with murdering the man who assaulted Deanna, Eric brings his magic to the courtroom with surprising results.

What they're saying about it:

"An interesting story of diverse entertainers who meet in the book and eventually live together in a big house in Detroit. They travel to Las Vegas and other theater venues to perform; most of the time in a group but sometimes separately. All the characters are interesting people and the author provided enough background information for me to feel that I knew them intimatley. I liked this book because I like to read books in a series.

Eric, a talented stage magician and a trained lawyer, is the kingpin of the group. He does however, go off the rails on drinking binges with either hilarious or disastrous results. The beautiful Magda is the voice of reason, Jack is a fighter who is useful in tough situations and Deanna is the smart trapeze artist. When Jack is accused murder, Eric needs all his magic and courtroom smarts to try to save him from jail.

I was really pleased with it and I look forward to the next book of the series."--Amazon Reviewer

Everyone in Galactic Central watches The Movies. These wondrous stories come from a planet called Earth, where strange beings called humans do nothing but create them.

One brave framadort converter risks all to go to Earth and become a Movie Star. He will face hunger and homelessness. He will confuse a fast food restaurant with a religion. He will be hunted by an Army General who thinks he is a communist.

Nothing will stop Xanthan Gumm from achieving his ultimate goal; meeting the King of Earth - Steven Spielberg!

What they're saying about it:

"`Xanthan Gumm' was an light-hearted, quirky, charming diversion for me. Xanth is, in a word, adorable. He's innocent, unsuspecting, ever the optimist as he learns to cope in the strange environment of modern earth. Like many other reviewers here I was strongly reminded of Galaxy Quest, but in this case the `alien' chooses to immerse himself in an unfamiliar world. I could seriously imagine this being made into a TV comedy series.

I have always enjoyed a good satire, and the caricatures who romp through these pages are amusing to say the least. Yet, during some poignant scenes, I truly sympathized with Xanth and his friends. Other moments were laugh-out-loud funny (for me, that does not happen often while reading). Serious themes occasionally emerged as the author poked fun at modern American society.

Five stars on Amazon means 'I loved it'. Four means 'I liked it'. In truth, this is a four-and-a-half star book for me. Why did I round up? Because it made me laugh out loud."--Amazon Reviewer

Genre: Young Adult, Childrens'

Price: $0.99

Where to Get It:

You know that spoiled brats you see in the store? Celia Meyers is one of them. But everything is about to change.
What they're saying about it:
"Celia Meyers - who is perhaps the smartest person she has ever met, is convinced that everyone in her family is out to get her. And, she is also completely invisible to them. That absurdity is all the more fun to us, because she never seems to catch on. All of her terrible troubles began, when her brother Aden was born.

This feels like a peek into Ms. Paye's childhood diaries; these words are at least the daily ramblings of Celia's troubled life, exactly the things Celia would write down. They are a scream to read, because Celia begins talking to us when she is eight. She is matter-of-fact, and very polite, and we roll with tears in our eyes.

We have been there. Some of us can still remember it well. And we see all this in our children.

Ms. Paye has calculated as she has written, and we hardly notice, because we are having too much fun; Celia is growing up. The eight year old stopped babbling long ago. There is still the invisibility problem, and punishments that are never warranted, because her brother caused the whole mess for her. But, very subtly, we aren't following a child. It is a beautiful slight-of-hand (and text). Eight years pass, and many secrets are revealed. The least of which, Celia understands herself, very well. So did the author who wrote this precious little bit of her life."--Amazon Reviewer

Growing up in a two-parent home during the Great Depression was certainly no picnic, but living in an orphanage run by dozens of nuns was undoubtedly worse.

Just ask Terry Gelormino Silver, the author of Nunzilla Was My Mother and My Stepmother Was a Witch. Terry spent her formative years under the care of so-called pious nuns who acted as if her very existence was a cross to bear. For so many years she kept these memories inside, as if waiting for the proper moment in time to let them out. Well, that time has come, and it is her readers who are the richer for it.

Shining with rare insight and vivid descriptions that ably present a world most people can only imagine, this compelling memoir still manages to capture the magic of childhood and the anxiety of adolescence while granting readers a new understanding of an innocent era.

The author's experiences in three separate orphanages are examined. In the end, Terry Gelormino Silver arrives at some very interesting conclusions, some of which will surprise even those who know her best!

What they're saying about it:

"Terry Gelormino Silver has written an account of her life that should be required reading for all social workers involved with children. Outside of the fascinating story, the facts support the idea that orphanages, with all their faults, were more likely to guide children to a normal and productive adult life than today's foster home system.

That said, the author tells a story so intriguing in its truth that I found it difficult to put it down. As soon as I finished it, I read it again."--Amazon Reviewer

Nice young ladies from the Garden State really shouldn’t be dumping bodies at sea. Then again, 20 year-old Hazel Moran is anything but your typical Jersey girl. Raised aboard a schooner and riding shotgun beside her father in their old tractor-trailer truck, there's little on the road or water that she can't handle; it's her people skills that need work. Normally that isn’t an issue – behind the wheel of a Kenworth most people tend to leave her alone. But when Hazel and her father become the targets of some unsavory characters hunting for her blue-haired cousin, their stolen tractor-trailer truck and a delivery that never arrived, she knows it's time to heed a lesson learned from her favorite hardboiled paperbacks: playing nice will only end in tears.

For ten sweltering days Hazel navigates the Garden State 's highways and shorelines, contending with a suspiciously wealthy stranger, white trash, Born Agains, appliance salesmen, an unstable stalker and his curiously troublesome companion. It'll take all her ingenuity, not to mention some fishing tackle and high voltage, if Hazel hopes to protect her family and unravel this tangle of greed and betrayal. And anyone who gets too close, no matter their intent, will discover just how dangerous shy little Hazel truly can be as she sets in motion a twisted plan to uncover the truth, settle some scores, and if possible not wind up dead in the process.

Somewhat hard-boiled, slightly noir, Last Exit in New Jersey is an offbeat tale that travels from a Delaware Bay ghost-town to metropolitan north Jersey, where boats and big rigs set the scene for danger, suspense, dark humor and an unlikely bit of romance.

What they're saying about it:

"Blown Away - All I can say is wow! I am very impressed. Not only with the story but also the way it was written. This kept my interest til the end with a big twist. I had an idea that a few twists and turns were coming, but I was not expecting the end. Highly Recommended!"--Amazon Reviewer

"A Great Read! - If you want something with a great plot and many twists you won't be disappointed."--Amazon Reviewer

"Catchy title, entertaining book - I was hooked from page one - a body is being dumped into the Atlantic - and the tension keeps rising from there. …whenever I started to think I had a handle on who to trust or not trust and why, there would be a twist that left me reevaluating everything I thought I knew. It keeps you guessing right up to the last pages as one mystery comes together and you realize beneath that there was something deeper going on all along."--Amazon Reviewer

What they're saying about it:

"Shared is an unforgiving and unforgettable tale that will linger long after you put it down. change with the wind.

What they're saying about it:

"Being more of an action novel type of person, I was unsure as to what to expect from the "Cave of Forlorn"... However, after reading this truly moving novel, I have an entirely new perspective on what i am looking for in a good read. The "Cave of Forlorn" is a breathtaking series of events that will keep you guessing as to what is going to happen next. Good Form R.C. Rutter, when is the movie going to debut?"

"Not normally drawn to traditional fantasy, I was pleasantly surprised by "The Cave of Forlorn". Recommended by a friend, I found the story flowed very well and held my attention--so much that I couldn't put it down until I finished! A mysterious locket not only determines an ailing king's fate, but it proves to be the catalyst for a reunion of sisters. Along the way, Gweneviere and Lydia must overcome a myriad of external and internal enemies, where uncertainty regarding their collective birthrights is just as much a menace as wolves that deliver poisonous bites and demon arrows that can cut a man in two."

However, her escape turned into a trap, leaving her stuck in indentured servitude, living on a tiny rock in space. As she tries to dig herself out, she gains friends and finds adventure. Cave-in rescues, planetary collisions, and other mishaps keep her
new family fighting to stay alive."

What they're saying about it:

"Tumbler is a scifi novel that is very Heinlein-esque. Small time main character works through struggles and makes good encapsulates the plot. But the story itself, while excellent, is not as exciting as watching the characters.

Libby, the heroine, is a young girl who has no idea how the world works. She loses her mother and then jumps head long into a deep space mining conglomerate hoping to somehow make good through hard work alone. Unfortunately, what she doesn't know just might kill her. If the locals don't do it first.

Most scifi books are heavy reading and usually just not my cup of tea. However, Tumbler is fast paced while maintaining believability and a delicious sense of the ironic. With such a wonderful combo, the reader cannot help but be swept along. I would note that this novel is considered "Young Adult", but anyone can jump in and enjoy it.

I am thrilled to see this piece on Amazon as I feel that Brand Gamblin's next work will be even more full of wit than Tumbler itself was."

"Tumbler is a fun story, with plenty of action, plenty of good characters, and plenty of hope that we won't always be stuck on this big blue ball if we only have the intestinal fortitude to get out there and get to work!"

Vice Principal Steve Lukather is desperate. Just like last year, an internet bully is terrorizing one of his students at Lakeland Middle School. Last time it ended badly when the victim was found with two slashed wrists after an attempted suicide. This year, after a series of nasty computer messages and an indiscreet photograph of Carly Gillette spread through the student body Lukather knows it's happening again. This time he's determined to stop the bully in his tracks before Gillette ends up reaching for a razor blade.

Thirteen-year-old Scott Halifax has a juvy rap sheet that could peel wallpaper but he's just what Lukather needs -- a street-smart, tech-savvy kid with no roots. Lukather makes a deal with Halifax: go undercover as a student at Lakeland and nail the bully in return for a ticket out of the County Detention Center and a clean slate.

Once he's in at Lakeland Halifax teams up with Tom Seidel, the nerdy kid that everyone loves to hate. It isn't long before Scott, Tom and Carly’s best friend Lisa are working together. It takes a lot of hard work, some sly computer sleuthing and a little dumb luck before they expose the bully. And it’s the last person that anybody would have suspected.

eBully draws on recent headlines about cyber-bullying, including the need to update harassment and stalking laws to reflect new technologies.

What they're saying about it:

"a book that really makes you think about the world and how it is now a days with the power that simple words have on people"--Barnes and Noble Reviewer

"A young boy locked away in a juvenile detention facility is hired by the vice principal of a middle school to go undercover and sniff out the identity of an internet bully on campus.

Despite the cloak and dagger setup, "eBully" is is actually a very realistic story. It's seemingly based in part on a real-life incident that took place on MySpace.

Even though children are the primary characters, I'd be hesitant to call this a kids' book. It's fairly dark and adult in nature. Still, it's a book every child - and parent - with access to the internet should read."--Amazon Reviewer

Stranded on a primitive world, facing death at the hands of the natives, betrayed by her crew, hunted by drug smugglers, Captain Dace has one hope of rescue - convince the Patrol agent trying to kill her that she's innocent.

What they're saying about it:

"'Nexus Point' from Jaleta Clegg is an inventive romp, worthy of many follow up tales; all on the strength of the marvelous Capt. Dace. In my youth, I would carry a lingering crush on such a character - hoping someday to see her in person.

Dace is not an accidental success: she is an accident - waiting to happen! What a joy to follow her as she bumbles and mumbles in this little drama/opera. Ms. Clegg must have howled with glee at her inventive predicaments. The buckles swash! The blasters blast! And the horses run away in fright, until you whistle for them. Dace would have been the constant captive when we played cowboys and indians as children.

There is much in this story to love unashamedly. There are many familiar elements in the plot, beautifully realized. There are broad strokes of mayhem, the conclusion sizzles. There are enough human moments that you wish you could point out the correct direction to run. Dace needs to know when to hush, at a few predicaments, and you can't help but try and shush her.

In short, 'Nexus Point' is a true gem in the genre of space fantasy. Yes, Dace is in space, for just a bit, and yes....she messes that up!

Ms. Clegg has my attention now, and a promise to follow where she is going"--Smashwords Reviewer

"A traditional-styled space opera, Nexus Point takes you on a non-stop adventure. From chapter one when Captain Dace is forced to make an emergency landing and lose her ship until the end, the suprises kept coming. Dadilan is a planet rich in perils and goings on. Captain Dace stumlbes into them all. Definitely a fun read. If you love space opera, you'll love Nexus Point."--Smashwords Reviewer

"A brutally honest look at corporate America's flaws and desperate people caught in the middle, Jobless Recovery is a masterful, gripping piece of fiction that rings true with every word. Candid, suspenseful and moving. Jobless Recovery was a very enjoyable read, one of the best novels I've read in a while. I think it would make an awesome movie." --Cheryl Kaye Tardif, bestselling author

A spooky graveyard. A creepy basement. A pair of coffins.

Thirteen-year-old Shane Andrews hates summer camp. When his parents allow him to choose, Shane decides to pick the worst camp he can find. Night Camp must be terrible. For one thing, activities take place at night and campers sleep during the day. That can’t be good, Shane reasons. His parents will realize Night Camp is even worse than they thought and they’ll come back to get him. Then Shane’s plans for summer freedom fall apart. His cousin Brad, a boy with a huge collection of tabloid magazines, convinces Shane that two of the camp counselors are vampires. Shane enlists the help of Brad and a girl camper named Nicole. The three set out to save themselves and the other campers. Then Shane uncovers the secret of Night Camp…

What they're saying about it:

"Night Camp is bound to reach middleschoolers with its blend of mystery, horror and humor. Each chapter leaves the reader eager for more of the twists and turns of the vampire-related plot. And what pre-teen won't relate to the concept of a camp where you are not only allowed to but must stay up all night and sleep all day? My 11-year-old grandson read it and in his words, "liked it allot." If you want your children to enjoy reading, this is the book to get them started."

"I bought my son a copy of the paperback. This is his review:

"'Night Camp' was an overall very enjoyable book. It had its down points but its up points outnumbered them. It was a fast-paced, quick read that always kept me on the edge of my seat. At the start of the book I was intrigued by the odd premises. I felt like I was in the main character's shoes with the good descriptions, and a feeling of knowing the settings.

"At the end the story turned out to be more of a light-hearted story than a Dracula-thriller. But the ending had its own perks compared to many other slightly-scary stories I have read. Once or twice I had trouble figuring out the order of the words. These are the only notable lackings of this book. It has a very good story contained within its pages. I had fun reading this book and I hope other people will, too. Four stars."

Lord Arkus of Blackriver Castle readily admits that he is a villain and sees no reason why it should stop him from being the protagonist of this book. After all, Prince Kellemar, an aspiring hero, has defeated him in a rather questionable way. Bent on revenge, Arkus attempts to capture a powerful evil spirit who would make him nearly invincible, but a last-minute mistake leaves him with a sparkling instead - a "goody-goody spirit that helps heroes, watches over little children, and messes up villains plans." Bound to Lord Arkus for five years of service and sworn to act in his best interests, the sparkling is not easy to get rid of, and of course his understanding of best interests is quite different from what Lord Arkus has in mind.

What they're saying about it:

"Fantasy fans of all ages will find something to enjoy in My Sparkling Romance, whether it's the imagery, the humour, or the experience of reading a chapter to their kids at bedtime."--The Literary Lionness

"Lord Arkus of Blackriver Castle is a deliciously evil villain. In fact, "evil" is one of his favorite words. And when Prince Kellemar of Dalvanna calls him "despicably wicked," Arkus considers it flattery. What a nasty, dreadful, and cruel villain Arkus is. Oh, and don't forget funny. Yes, I said funny! With author Laura Lond's crisp, wry sense of humor, you'll be laughing right along with the scoundrel on almost every page."--Feathered Quill Book Reviews

Having done his best to fulfill the commission given him by a supernatural messenger, yet apparently having failed to do so, Jeco and his friends, Dalian and Lord Farizel, find themselves running for their lives from the wrath of King Alvard III. When the king pays dearly for his mistake, the nine-year-old Princess Arvelina is elevated to a position she could not have anticipated. While the Meorian army marches toward Tirgan to destroy the Book of Light as originally planned by Alvard, it seems all hope is lost to stop a war between the two nations as the Tirganians have begun moving their troops in response. Disobedience, although done out of best intentions, throws the conflict into an event of extortion of life and death, leaving the Tirganian king, Ez-Keramon, to decide the fate of a dearly beloved young man. Without intervention by the Lord of the heavens the two nations face the judgment of a blood bath. Individual character qualities and actions bring to each their own penalties and rewards, as well as the effect they have on others.

What I found in the sample:

The writing is smooth and the conflict is there right from the first page. The characters are strong and the sample promises a good read. I was intrigued by the black horseman and why he wears his mask, and I'm sure readers will be as well.
