Genre: Horror

Price: $.0.99

Where to Get It:

Amazon.com (for Kindle)

Meet Horace, he has a very unusual gift or what you may consider a very grim curse: anything and everything that dies in his presence does not die, no matter how violent or brutal their death may be, they do not die.

Die Already is the new tragic and disturbing love story.

Plus a bonus short excerpt by Tom Raimbault: Something Quite Perverse, From his book The Tree Goddess.

What they're saying about it:

It's not often that a storyline takes me completely by surprise. So I won't give this one away to ruin the impact. Kipp Poe Speicher's short story left me chilled. He entranced me right from the start and didn't let go until the very end, which will blew my mind. This is a story, which will definitely stay with me and reaffirms my admiration for the wonderfully twisted mind of Kipp Poe Speicher.--Imogen Rose, author of Portal

What they're saying about this author:

"Basil Sands has a knack for blending action and intrigue in an all-too realistic setting. In Karl's Last Flight, the future is reminiscent of our recent past. I just hope there are heroes like Basil's heroes fighting on our side. "-Evo Terra, founder of Podiobooks.com

"Sands is fearless in his storytelling, and tireless in his quest to connect directly with his audience. Big Publishing? Watch out for this guy." Scott Sigler, NYT Bestselling author of Infected, Contagious, and Ancestor

“Basil Sands is one awesome writer, penning stories pumped with enough adrenaline that you’ll suffer from insomnia until you read the last word. This is one writer not to be missed.” – Jeremy Robinson, author of PULSE and INSTINCT

"...keeps one begging to find out what happens next."--Amazon Reviewer

"The plot is well conceived and the writing flows smoothly with the characters, both good and bad, defined. Perhaps as a former Marine, I had a soft place for the primary protagonist, Marcus, but his role stood alone without the need for embellishment." Gordon Ryan, Kindle Author

Jacob is alone. Alone on a forbidden planet with only Marron, an artificial human for company. Jacob’s father and sister were killed when their ship crash-landed. There is no hope of rescue. Can Jacob survive when there is something dangerous in the forest?

What they're saying about it:

"On yet another scientific adventure with his father, Jacob finds himself stranded on another planet. His father was so sure there was something amazing to be discovered on Koenig's World, but Jacob is now to discover it alone. A tragic crash and Jacob is left to his own devices on this unfamiliar, colorless world with only Marron, his synthetic man, to keep him company. Unidentified screaming from the forest every night and a distinct lack of palatable food wears on Jacob day by day as he struggles just to survive. It isn't long, however, before Jacob begins to notice some amazing things about this planet; unexpected things that Jacob is unable to explain away. It isn't until he takes matters into his own hands that everything starts to make a little more sense. He may understand this world a little better, but can he survive it?

Engaging from the start, I really enjoyed this book. I devoured it in short order, with each new discovery a tantalizing clue as to what this world was all about. The writing style was entertaining and the plot events rolled out at a nice pace. The story didn't seem to drag at all, with each page just as engaging as the one before it. Jacob is likable, but I found Marron even more fascinating and I rooted for his continued development. The introduction of a new character near the ending led to an interesting twist that added a element of complexity to the overall plot. I felt one of the biggest strengths of this story was the originality of the concept, including the turn of events the led to the final ending."--Amazon Reviewer

We, the Watched by Adam Bender

Genre: Dystopian, Science Fiction

Price: $2.99

Where to Get It:

Smashwords (all eBook formats)

A 20-something man wakes up without memory and finds himself in a nation that administers a Watched List of its own citizens. He meets people who accept invasive surveillance by the government and forced uniformity by the church as necessary safeguards for protecting the homeland. The amnesiac learns quickly that opposition is heresy—and punishable by death.

WE, THE WATCHED is a dystopian novel by Adam Bender about what happens when one man forgets the propaganda. He makes strides toward getting his life back together, but the fresh perspective granted by his rebirth soon proves to be more a curse than a gift.

What they're saying about it:

"There’s action, romance, and social commentary woven into a brilliant story with an amazing plot twist near the end. It’s science fiction in the way that Orwell’s1984 or Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury dystopian novels are considered science fiction. In fact, I see shades and shadows of both works in We, The Watched. The writing is nearly on par with these geniuses of the written word. Mr. Bender isn’t quite there yet, but is closing in fast on the masters. Since this is his first published novel, that’s an auspicious start. It’s highly likely that given a bit more time and experience, the novice shall surpass the masters."

The year is 1983. The place is the Kobe-Osaka area. A 33-year-old American drifter and Vietnam War veteran has just arrived in Japan seeking one more adventure and an escape from his past. A promiscuous, rebellious, 23-year-old Japanese woman has just returned from a two-year homestay in a Canadian mission, where she was sent by her parents to cure her suicidal behavior. A snobbish, upper-class, 22-year-old Japanese woman who cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality is about to graduate from university and enter the frightening world of adulthood. Three people searching for a place to belong. Three people dancing on a psychological highwire. Three people about to become enmeshed in a relationship that will change each of their lives forever. "Toraware" takes a penetrating look at the obsessions, suspense, grief, misunderstandings, and joys of people from very different cultures and backgrounds who are brought together by fate to find the separate life paths they must follow.

What they're saying about it:

"Crafted in excellent style and patiently honed.... The Japanese characters are wholly convincing.... The ambivalence and spiritual guilt of Yoshiko, one of the tragic heroines of 'Toraware,' about an abortion she underwent years ago, is perfectly captured.... [Norris has] captured the unassuagable melancholy at the deepest core of the Japanese soul [and] succeeded in convincing us of the reality of [his] vision." -- Kansai Time Out Magazine

"'Toraware' goes beyond the 'gaijin' experience.... [Norris] manages to evoke the rootlessness felt by young Japanese uncertain about their future." -- The Japan Times

Modeled roughly on Malcolm Lowry's "Dark as the Grave Wherein My Friend is Laid, " this novel is part homage to Lowry and Hermann Hesse, part mushroom retrospective, and part middle-aged love story. David Thompson is an expatriate American teaching at a Japanese university and suffering from hepatitis C. His wife Kaori is recovering from cancer surgery. Feeling a strong sense of their own mortality, confusion about the significance of what they have done with their lives, and a need to escape the constrictions of their life in Japan, the two set out on a journey to Europe to retrace a path from David's adventurous youth and locate a German benefactor from the past. What lies ahead -- a trip through the Magic Theater, a sudden death, an encounter with Lowry's ghost, and a descent into the Capuchin Crypt in Rome -- will change their lives irrevocably.

What they're saying about it:

"'Autumn Shadows In August' is an engaging and entertaining novel…very strongly recommended for all general fiction readers for its evocative telling and unique style and presentation of a timeless tale…an overall remarkable story." -- Midwest Book Review

"'Autumn Shadows in August' is a journey in miles and of states of mind. The reader travels through Europe with an American expatriate who recapitulates his past in a transcendental and evocative fashion. Along this mind-expanding sojourn, we also travel over the Khyber Pass from Afghanistan and into India, where the protagonist's life is transformed. 'Autumn Shadows in August' is an insightful and very enjoyable read. I'm glad I went along on this personal journey." -- David Echt, author of "Messenger from the Summer of Love"

David Thompson is a former Vietnam War conscientious objector in Paris on a quest to find himself in the early days of 1977. When he befriends an Iranian and an Afghan and is invited to return with them to their countries, his quest slowly becomes a descent into his own private hell.

On the road from Europe to the East, he encounters Kurdish bandits in the eastern mountains of Turkey, becomes involved with an underground group opposed to the Shah in Iran, escapes to Afghanistan, passes through Pakistan during the uprising against the Bhutto regime, and suffers extreme sickness on the streets of Delhi and Calcutta. Although continually searching for the happiness and identity he could not find in the U.S., he cannot easily shed his American past. Throughout the journey he is hounded by the demons of memory, particularly that of his father, a World War II hero who disowned David and died while David was still in prison. The journey itself becomes a physical manifestation of his struggle to achieve reconciliation with his own conscience.

What they're saying about it:

"A graceful autobiographical novel that breathes life into a perennial genre: the spiritual 'bildungsroman.' The theme of a questing expatriate who renounces Western materialism in favor of an exotic pilgrimage to the East will be familiar to anyone who has fallen under the spell of W. Somerset Maugham's 'The Razor's Edge' or Jack Kerouac's 'The Dharma Bums'...

Although published prior to the events of 9/11, it is impossible to pick up Norris's novel without a heightened interest in its vividly depicted locales in a part of the world where our attentions are now so intensely focused. Several fascinating chapters are devoted to [the protagonist's] stay in Afghanistan. Written with a novelist's eye for characterization and a reporter's skill for observation, 'Looking for the Summer' is the kind of small press gem that is often overlooked but is well worth seeking out." -- Bob Wake, CultureVulture.net

Macardle is a seventeen-year-old boy of mystical origins who is assigned an overlooker, Clibliss Clover. Lenny, a messenger bee, was sent from his colony at Honey Hill to find help, as the malicious and ghostly honeybee Tracy, “the Boobee,” placed Honey Hill under a terrible curse that killed all the flowers, and his fellow honeybees face a perilous extinction. Against Macardle’s wishes, the two partake in a journey full of surprises in this action-packed adventure. It is up to Macardle and Clibliss to find Tracy and reverse the damage before it is too late, but not before they meet a few characters along the way.

What I found in the sample:

"...No candidate is forced to marry; however, if a proposed match is not made official at the village wedding ceremony, both candidates are killed and fed to the wild beasts in the hills."--excerpt

I had to laugh at this line. So far, the sample promises a light, funny read with vivid characters. Macardle is likeable as he copes with his ability to fit in with the rest of his village and immediately gained my interest.

Are you ready for something unique, something with an edge to it, something that questions your version of reality? Johnny Oops doesn’t know if he’s a charlatan, a prophet, a sex maniac, or even if he’s real, but he believes he’s delivering the word of God. As he crosses the country from coast to coast, it’s hard to decide if he’s more intent on spreading a message of caring and kindness, or in the personal dalliances he has with various women. Decide for yourself if the Dialectic Spiritualism Religion he proposes, which promotes touching others in their private essentials, is a philosophical concept, or an excuse for his unending escapades.

In my novel, Johnny Oops, the surprises come non-stop. Walk with Johnny as he lives with the raging aggressive genes of a genius, spawns a seven-foot tall giant of a son, two precocious telepathic twin daughters named Precious and Pretty and a one-foot tall inner self named Inny. Join him as he races from one reality to another. Discover whether Johnny really is a prophet who can offer salvation and redemption, or a charlatan who pretends he has experienced various rebirths and second comings.

What they're saying about it:

"This book is really different. I wasn't expecting all the twists and turns that led the main character, Johnny Oops from one coast to the other promoting his form of spiritualism and promoting himself as a prophet. Not for the faint of heart, Johnny proves time and again that he is more of a sinner than a saint. I was taken by his questioning of whether we are real or living in a virtual reality world controlled by some game master although in the end he holds true to his belief in God. This author has a distinctive voice, and for a first novel made me interested in reading more of his works."--Amazon Reviewer

Gold Stars by Samuel Lytle

Genre: Young Adult, Adventure

Price: $2.99

Where to Get It:

Amazon.com (for Kindle)
Barnes and Noble (Nook)

Gold Stars delves into one of the inner most questions of the soul: why do we do good things? This altruistic adventure intertwines the lives of four main characters, each trying to change the world for the better or worse. The result is a local reality show where those who move 'the obstacle in the path' are rewarded with cash. The town falls in love with the TV program and the citizens find themselves falling over themselves to help each other. But are they helping because it is right, or because they want the reward? The characters are caught in the middle of this conflict of interests while discovering that really, they are striving for their own 'gold stars'. This tale of mystery, adventure, service, betrayal and romance will (hopefully) change the way you look at your own reactions.

What they're saying about it:

"Gold stars has several original characters that fill the pages of this book. The author does a phenomenal job of weaving, the several different stories, together. I was very surprised this book was the authors first. He writes like a veteran, and is able to command the story, moving it forward when the story needs to change and holding the story back to keep us guessing. I had several different thoughts about how this story was going to end, and each time I was wrong. The book is a great read at a remarkable price. I took a chance on this book, not knowing what it would be about, and being the authors first, but I can honestly tell you that the message behind the story and the thoughts I have entertained since putting it down have been well worth it. You can't beat the price, and more so, you can't help but falling in love with the story. Buy this book."--Amazon Reviewer

"This book is 5 (gold) stars in my opinion. I like the book's idea which is to see if people would help others they don't know for the possibility of a reward. If they are rewarded with cash, then are they really helping people? or just gambling?

Just like the cover suggests, the story involves four main characters. I like how I found myself thinking the same way Parker (the main, main character) thinks in some of the situations, especially when it came to girls."--Amazon Reviewer

Bargain eBooks #90: Velvet Ball and the Broken Fairy by Patricia Puddle

Velvet Ball and the Broken Fairy by Patricia Puddle

Genre: Childrens'

Price: $0.99

Where to Get It:

Amazon.com (for Kindle)

Nine-year-old Velvet Ball has had enough of Rory O’Leary calling her a pixie just because she’s bald, and when his mates yank her hat off and call her baldy, she runs home through the forest.

When she stops in a clearing to pick wildflowers, she stumbles upon a fairy caught in the bow of a tree. The fairy promises to grant Velvet a wish if she saves her and proclaims to be Roseberry — Fairy of Crabtree Forest. Velvet doesn’t believe in magic, but she rescues the so-called fairy anyway. But when her wish of getting her hair back doesn’t work, Roseberry tries to fly away. Trouble is, her wings are broken and she seems to have no magic. Velvet feels sorry for the helpless little sprite and decides to look after her until she recovers.

Happy to have a friend, Velvet hides Roseberry in her bedroom, but she soon wonders why she’s bothered to help such an ungrateful little thing. The fairy isn’t at all endearing—she’s rude, demanding, bad-mannered and spoilt, and acts like a princess and expecting to be waited on. Velvet figures Roseberry doesn’t know how to use her powers because she didn’t pay attention in Magic School, but she’d better learn or Velvet will be stuck with the broken fairy.

What they're saying about it:

"I'm looking for a great story to read on my kindle. This one caught my eye immediately. It is a touching story of a beautiful friendship between a spoiled fairy and a girl who just wants to fit in. Deeply moving, and written fantastic with a strong voice. Nine-year-old Velvet Ball has no hair. If that's not bad enough, her family moves to the country. No fourth graders want to hang out with a bald girl with no eyelashes. They make fun of poor Velvet constantly.

While walking home she meets a fairy named Roseberry caught in the bow of a tree. The little sprite says she is the Fairy of Crabtree Forest, and promises to grant Velvet a wish if she saves her. After saving her, Velvet makes her wish but nothing happens. Roseberry doesn't have any magic. Even worse, her wings are broken. Velvet vows to take her home and help her recover. But little does she know, Roseberry is WAY more trouble than what she bargined for.

Wit and humor shine in this story, keeping me entertained and laughing the entire journey. Not only is it loaded with action and funny moments, it teaches children how wonderful they really are and sends a wonderful message to kids and moms. It also teaches love, acceptance, and patience. The characters are crafted wonderfully with distinct personalities that made me want to keep scrolling to the next page. I hope to read more from this talented author who has a heart and passion for children. It definitely shows in her writing.

I can't wait for the next book to come out because the end left me blown away with a big surprise. What a series this will be! I'm so hooked. I definitely would recommend this book to everyone."--Amazon Reviewer

Where to Get It:

The Discovery of Socket Greeny is the first book in a young-adult scifi trilogy that explores love, angst and Zen-like acceptance of true nature in kick ass fashion. Reluctant readers, especially boys, will find this story compelling, enlightening, entertaining, and, yes, even emotional.

Work has always come first for 16-year old Socket Greeny's mother, especially since his father died. But when she shows him the inner workings of the Paladin Agency, he discovers why it's so important. It's an underground world of technological wonder including bat-like grimmets, spherical servy-mechs and humanoid butlers with brightly lit faceplates. They traverse the planet through wormholes to keep the world safe, but from what, they won't say. Although his mother is not actually a Paladin, and neither was his father, both have worked for them for most their lives. Socket, however, is different than his parents. He somehow is a Paladin and soon finds himself in the center of controversy and betrayal when he's anointed the agency's prodigy. He didn't ask for the "blessing" of psychic powers and the ability to timeslice and he doesn't want to be responsible for the world. He just wants to go home and back to school and be normal again. But, sometimes, life doesn't give us that privilege, his mother tells him. And when the world is soon threatened and the Paladins are forced into the public eye, Socket discovers what his mother means. If he doesn't embrace his true nature, life as we know it will change forever.

What they're saying about it:

"well-done and entertaining" --Nicole Del Sesto (Top 1000 Amazon Reviewer)

"What I liked best about the book, though, is its understanding of the essential human condition. Everyone is damaged, everyone compensates or copes as best they can, and everyone is deserving of compassion, even the bad guys."--Amazon Reviewer

"Utterly authentic, completely original, and deeply moving"--Amazon Reviewer

Bargain eBooks #88: My Name Is Joe by Stefan Bourque

My Name Is Joe by Stefan Bourque

Type: Novella

Genre:

Price: $2.99

Where to Get It:

Amazon.com (For Kindle)

"My Name Is Joe" is about a single middle-aged man living alone who learns he has terminal cancer. Suddenly, he is forced to look back on his life and what he finds is that his life has been largely out of balance - partly due to circumstance and culture, but a lot due to his own reluctance to step up and take life by the horns. Now he is out of time - something that we all take for granted -- and he is left to wonder if it is too late for him to make changes and find redemption. The question is: can Joe learn to live before he dies?

This book really moved me and I believe others will be, too. Something that really stood out to me is how interconnected we all are, and how our actions (or non-actions) can have a profound impact on those around us. The writing is fabulous, too. The author cared very deeply for the characters, and it shows.

What they're saying about it:

"Have you ever read a book or seen a movie that left you questioning life? I know that many of us travel through life with many questions on our mind: What is the point? Am I doing what the right thing? Is there a way for me to be more successful? To name but a few of the questions I am sure flutter through all our brains. After reading "My Name is Joe" I have come to realization that I have been asking the wrong questions. For each of us that question may be different. For me; the question is why is happiness so elusive? "My Name is Joe" puts you on the path. It may only hint at answers but, it definitely asks the hard questions. I have never read a fiction book like this! And neither will you!"--Amazon Reviewer

"I wasn't sure what to expect when I purchased my copy of My Name Is Joe and to be honest I was a little afraid of it. I don't normally read stories within this genre and especially ones about terminal cancer as I lost my father to the disease when I was a child. Having been a fan of Stefan's other books however, I had to give it a try and I'm VERY glad I did. My Name Is Joe reads as if it had come from someone who'd actually lived through the tragedy which Joe sadly found himself mired in. The emotion which runs through the story is very real - from Joe's anger at his situation to his sadness at missed opportunities. My Name Is Joe is a huge step - one giant leap - in a very different direction for its author and Stefan managed it superbly, flawlessly.

As the book came to a close I found myself sad that it was ending, both for Joe's sake and my own, but still, as I closed the book for the last time I couldn't help but smile. My Name Is Eryk, and I just made a new friend whose name is Joe."--Amazon Reviewer

Bargain eBooks #87: Eel's Reverence by Marian Allen

Eel's Reverence by Marian Allen

Genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy

Price: $2.99

Where to Get It:

Amazon.com (for Kindle)
OmniLit

When elderly priest of Micah, "Aunt" Libby, goes on a Final Wandering, she's accosted and then befriended by an amphibious mugger. The area known as The Eel is infested with worse than minor criminals--it's under the thumbs of a coalition of greedy, brutal priests. Aunt Libby is a frail barrier to stand between peace and violence, and the worst violence may not come from her enemies...but from her friends. Marian Allen's EEL'S REVERENCE explores what it means to be moral--and what it means to be human.

What they're saying about it:

Eel's Reverence is a fantasy allegory that wonderfully compares a humble heart of a "true" priest to "reaver priests" who would take advantage of others through a demanding litany of subservience. Eel's Reverence explores relationships between friends and enemies, and all the results of dealing with hard choices. As a Christian, I had no trouble relating to the allegory in this novel, and the conflicts that arise in real life. Very well done, with a new conflict, just as I thought the story would end. Marian Allen is an accomplished storyteller. My money was well spent - if you enjoy fantasy or allegorical stories, yours will be too!"--Amazon Reviewer

"Writing a fantasy that feels real is a delicate balancing act, one that Allen manages with deft humor, all-too-believable characters, and the occasional fantastical reference that reminds us that we’re not in Kansas anymore. Take, for instance, the reproductive cycle of mermayds. Like seahorses, the females lay eggs—but the males gestate them in a belly pouch. Like some amphibians, they are capable of switching gender at need. And yet they are physically like mermaids—half human, half fish. The fantasy is real, and believable, because it is rooted in similar structures in the “real” world.

Perhaps that’s the key to Eel’s Reverence both as a darned good read, and as a book that provokes questions about our own world—the fantasy is fantastical enough to be fun, and real enough to be believable."--Amazon Reviewer

How far would you go to right a wrong?

For Michael Sykora, killing started as blind rage. Then it became something he's good at. To most of those who know him, Michael is a software designer, a smart but average guy with a workaholic nature. To a chosen few, Michael is a part-time hit man whose specialty is eliminating hard-core criminals. Michael has managed to keep his two personas separate. Until now.

When Nicki, a close friend, gets into trouble, Michael steps in to help. Having lost his fiance to a brutal crime, Michael will do whatever necessary to keep from losing another woman in his life.

What they're saying about it:

"An average, unsuspecting software designer, Michael goes into a blind rage when his lover is raped and strangled. When he eventually learns the identity of her attacker, he takes it upon himself to ensure that the degenerate never hurts another innocent soul; however, Michael isn't prepared for the tremendous sense of redemptive satisfaction that follows his vigilant act, which eventually leads him to become "The Ghost," a self-appointed Angel Of Death determined to clean up the "messes" often left behind by the flawed criminal justice system.

So when a sinister figure threatens to kill Nicki, a close friend of his, Michael kicks his efforts into high gear, refusing to let another person that he truly cares about suffer the same fate as his murdered lover; however, this time Michael is dealing with a whole new breed of lowlifes - and the success of his quest is all but assured..."--Amazon Reviewer

A teenage runaway disappears from the streets. The only people that care, or even notice, are her two best friends who are also runaways. For reasons of their own, they can't go to the police for help

They seek out Michael Sykora, a software designer by day and hit man by night. Known on the streets as The Ghost, Michael has a reputation for taking on the twisted criminals. Rapists. Child molesters. He has never been hired to find the lost. Until now.

Michael teams up with ex-prostitute Nicki and full-time hit man Sean. Together they bend the rules of the justice system in order to find a young girl few people care about. In the process, they uncover a world where salvation comes with a price tag and God's words are used to incite fear in a congregation of believers.

What they're saying about it:

Beyond Salvation is the second novel in Darcia Helle's Michael Sykora series. The first novel, No Justice, did a terrific job of establishing the characters through fast-paced action and mounting tension. Beyond Salvation channels that energy in a well-defined direction, focusing on the case of a teen who was abducted by a deeply flawed religious group.

While the body count in this novel is decidedly less than its predecessor, Helle demonstrates an exceptional ability to evoke a wide range of intense emotions from her readers. The subplots that are common to both novels show a very believable progression in Sykora's relationships and professional life. I can't wait for the next installment.

My name is Skye Summers. I'm a hairstylist and I can't stop fantasizing about killing my clients. Not all of them, of course. I only want to kill the ones who irritate me, which, if I'm being honest, is most of them. My occasional fantasies have turned into chronic daydreams. They're bloody and vivid, like watching a slice-and-dice movie on IMAX.

I also want to kill my husband's ex-girlfriend. She's not a client but she tops my list. Eighteen years ago, she gave birth to his daughter and she has tormented him ever since. I should be troubled by this growing desire to use my surgically sharpened shears for more than a haircut. Instead, I wonder how I can get away with it.

What they're saying about it:

"It is not a pun to call this book sharp. It is as perfect a description as I am able make. But, there are other things to say about Darcia Helle's `The Cutting Edge' and every one of them good. This is a delicious read; this is an inviting read; there are moments that bring you to knowing laughter. Skye is a perfect narrator. We have all owned her thoughts. She speaks to us, as we often speak to ourselves, "...it's normal to have these thoughts...right?"

Every moment of Ms. Helle's tale is a delight. To have you giggling at her imagined crimes against her customers, is a wicked thing to make you do, but I promise you will submit willingly. If she happens to find a chance to make those daydreams come true...you will understand, and forgive her. They had it coming. Right?"--Amazon Reviewer

"I have never read a book more amazing and intriguing as The Cutting Edge by Darcia Helle. I found it hard to put this book down. Every chapter kept me wanting more and more to find out the identity of the serial killer. And when you think you know who it is, you are stunned (similar to the way the killer stunned his victims!) to find out you were wrong! This is an amazing book that is filled with mystery, humor, love, and also makes you explore your inner thoughts of that "unruly customer". I urge anyone to read this extraordinary work and after reading I bet you will take a look at yourself and laugh how much you can relate to Skye! For anyone in the service industry this book is a MUST READ!!!!!"--Amazon Reviewer

Sanity is not something you lose, like your car keys or that elusive sock in the dryer. That's what Ian believed before his mother stepped over the edge from sane to crazy. No one is able to give Ian a reasonable explanation. Corinne suffers from severe memory loss, odd behavior, and paranoid delusions. Or at least Ian had been told they were delusions. After all, who would be hiding outside watching his mother? And why?

Ian hires private investigator Lucianna Martel to retrace the events of his mother's last sane day. During Lucianna's investigation, she and Ian learn that Corinne may not be so crazy after all.

What they're saying about it:

"The multi-dimensional characters in Darcia Helle's Hit List pulled me into the story immediately. They held their grip on me through all the twists and turns and refused to let go until the very last page. I can't wait to read more of her books."--Amazon Reviewer

"This book starts where mother seems to be losing her mind, forcing her son to move back home and wonder if he should put her into an institution. How can a parent go from "normal" to a babbling child hiding in a closet in just one day? Follow Ian along while he tries to save his mother, with therapists and a private detective agency. Trust me; this book takes you places you never expect to go. There are surprises all the way to the end. This is the first book of Darcia Helle I have read, and I promise you it is not the last! Pick this one up, you will not be disappointed."--Amazon Reviewer

Spirit Thorn, A Tale of Parallel Worlds, by Zacharias O'Bryan, poses the question "Do parallel worlds exist?" Searching for proof, Professors Rodger & Cassie Swift vanish. Kestrelle, an other-world girl claiming to know their fate, tells their son Braden he must brave a whitewater, tooth-sprouting river into a land where wise vultures predict the future and blue minds inhabit lava caves. Only two powers can help: Kestrelle's Blood Thorn and Braden's vine-painted guitar. (For All Ages)

Spirit Thorn, A Tale of Parallel Worlds, the important new novel by Zacharias O'Bryan, unifies spiritual ethics with both ecological mandates and the mind-bending cosmology of cutting edge physics. Written as a science-fiction/fantasy adventure, Spirit Thorn is capturing the hearts, hopes and tears of all Seekers -- from the precocious ten-year-old to the questing adult.

What they're saying about it:

"... a tale that asks the reader to ponder how our imprinted notions of space and time might require modification if suddenly nothing heretofore known explains such phenomena as the disappearance of family figures and the shifting in space and time of rivers, forests, towns and universities. If you have teens who liked Ursula Le Guin or Robert A. Heinlein, turn them on to Zacharias O'Bryan and his tale of multiverses." --Angus Brownfield, author of The Mechanic of San Martin.

"... I loved SPIRIT THORN because it is a rollicking good tale with marvelous characters. It is both an adventure story and a mystery full of near-escapes, scary creatures, and amazing settings ... There were sections that reminded me of Mark Twain. The speeches that O'Bryan's Earl and the Judge gave to the townspeople were every bit as humorous and clever as the ones Twain's Duke and the King made in HUCKLEBERRY FINN." --Dr. Susan Roper, Emeritus Dean of Education, Cal Poly State University.

Price: $2.99.

Where to Get It:

A teen's whole world is turned upside down when he receives a visit from a 19th century dueling master after he wishes for help with his messed up life.

In I AM THE FOX, a middle grade boys' adventure, fourteen-year-old Luke Cassidy, the oldest son of a single parent mother, is responsible for his eight-year-old brother, Cole. So far, Luke isn't doing too well, what with his mother's mean boyfriend breathing down his neck and his brother not listening to a word he says. When a man who calls himself The Fox appears in Luke's bedroom and tells Luke he will help him become a man, Luke is shocked. The Fox convinces Luke, and together, they navigate the halls of Luke's school and the streets of New York City, stopping crime and finding excitement. The only problem is, only Luke can see The Fox

What they're saying about it:

"Many children, especially those with younger siblings, will be able to relate to this novel. Luke, who is growing up in a dysfunctional home, must find a way to keep his younger brother, Cole, from getting involved in a gang--and things aren't looking too good. That is, until The Fox, a robin hood-like hero from television, arrives.

The Fox serves as a role model for Luke, and Luke's character develops throughout the novel from helpless to responsible and confident. I especially enjoyed the scene in which he gets rid of his mother's abusive boyfriend (I won't spoil how.) Also, normally first person present tense jars me out of a story, but this was written so well that I didn't even notice the tense until Chapter 3. All in all, a read that's well worth the price!"--Me

CANDY, MURDER, AND ME is an 80,000-word cozy mystery set in Florida, in and around a dress design company, which co-stars Sigmund Freud, a psychoanalyst dachshund, and is the first in the Full-Figure Cookie Berelli Mystery Series.

When full-figure dress designer and candy addict Cookie Berelli discovers the PI she hired to clear her of embezzlement charges dead in her design studio, she investigates, to wacky results. For example, is Eugene Gemstone involved? After all, he is her number one fabric cutter at Florida Fashions, and he did start acting overemotional after he wore one of the dresses she designed into the ladies’ room at Chez Riso and got arrested. He's especially suspect now that he's disappeared with all of Cookie's candy stash. Then again, it could be that cute PI, Andy Shea, who shows up at the funeral of her dead PI, and makes her hear the love song from GONE WITH THE WIND in her head, or it could be just about anyone else on the planet.

Everyone's starting to look suspicious now, especially Yuri Yarutski, who owns a sports bar in the bad part of town and wants to go a few rounds with Cookie, the woman who lives in a tree (who in Florida can live without air conditioning?), and even Bernadette Humphreys of Bernie's Tattoos who comes up with the weirdest body art. Okay, yes, Cookie did find the body, in fact two of them, and so she has to clear herself, but does that mean the murderer has to go after her?

Recipes from her Norwegian and Italian heritage including Grandma Berelli’s Pralines (“Worth going to jail for”), Cookie’s Maple Candies(“So good they’re criminal”), and Nana’s Kringlas (“To kill for” - ), among others, are availablethroughout the story to break up the mayhem.

What they're saying about it:

"Caution: be prepared to resist temptation as Cookie (should be named Candy) munches on chocolates as she muddles her way through solving two mysteries. And if you weaken, she includes her family recipes of those delectable-sounding treats."--Tyler Mallone, author of Murder in the Mountains

What they're saying about it:

Ian Harebungler, our hapless hero, just can't catch a break. First, the deli ran out of his favorite cucumber sandwiches. Then he left the gas on at home. But the lowlight was being abducted from his front yard by a particularly ill-mannered alien, one who apparently doesn't believe in anesthetic, no less. Fortunately, Ian is saved by an unlikely ally: the Twiller, whose bravery is somewhat overshadowed by its uncanny resemblance to a floating yellow marshmallow with big eyes.

The Twiller follows the adventures of Ian and his newfound companion as they are whisked around the Universe, and Ian learns how difficult it can be to find his way home to a backwater planet called "Earth." Along the way, Ian must survive the traffic of El Leigh, the enthusiastic protestors of Bez Erkeley, and rampaging politicians in the city of WMD. Even worse, he must contend with exorbitant prices in the city of York, endure the heat and crazy drivers in Fleur Ida, and struggle to escape the small planet of "Huh? Why E?" before he contracts island fever. Astute readers might pick up on subtle correlations to real places here on Earth, but my lawyers have reminded me to state that such resemblances are purely coincidental.

As it starts to dawn on Ian that the bizarre planets he visits suffer from many of the same problems, comical situations, and inane rules all too familiar to him, he stumbles upon an important secret that gives his quest to return home added urgency. Can Ian make it home? Will he arrive in time to prevent a terrible catastrophe? And can he find a flight without a Saturday night stopover? The answer lies with the Twiller…
